Cromwell Fire Department announces PROJECT SAFE FAMILIES CROMWELL, Connecticut - The Cromwell Fire Department announces the launch of their new program “Project Safe Families.” Beginning April 1, 2000 the department is embarking on a mission to make sure every family in town is protected from a possible fire. They plan to achieve this goal by providing and installing free smoke detectors in the home of any resident that does not have one and meets project guidelines. According to Project Coordinator Bill McKnight, “The program will last until every home in town has a smoke detector.” The smoke detectors are available to any resident of Cromwell free of charge. Cromwell Fire District Fire Marshal Todd Gagnon enthusiastically supports the program, and helped to get it up and running. Residents can get their free smoke detectors by simply calling the Cromwell Fire Department at (860) 635-5211. Firefighters will schedule a time to deliver and install the life-saving devices. This program was made possible through a generous donation from Citizens Bank in Middletown. ![]() Above (L-R) Sandy Churchill, Cromwell Square Branch Manager for Citizens Bank presents the check to Todd Gagnon, Cromwell Fire Marshal; David Colligan, Fire Chief; and Firefighter/EMT Bill McKnight, Co-Chair of Project Safe Families.
